LYTTLETON, NZ
13-17 Feb, 2018
Our airbnb flat in Christchurch is actually in the port town (small town) of Lyttleton. It’s charming, and the flat oversees port ops!!!! Our hosts are especially terrific as they go out of their way to help and advise us.
Our flat is one of the best we’ve had. It has incredible views overlooking the port as well as an oven so maybe we can get a new zealand meat pie!! full frig, washer, very large TV and great wifi. And a very large living/dining area with desk for the computer!!
And the best yet – our host Terry offered to fetch some of those wonderful green lipped mussels – 2+kg for about $US7.50 (about 4lbs!) We cooked them up with garlic, shallots, white wine and some fresh corn – wonderful homecooked dinner!!!
We arrived on the 13th. We took the car back on the 14th and walked about Christchurch. We ended up riding the bus to one of the malls where I got my phone fixed – the camera crackled up and ceased to work!
On the 15th we stayed in town and took a walk along the waterfront, and towards the yacht club to the west of the harbor.
The 16th was a day to finalize hiring the campervan which was a real challenge as everything was booked. Turns out Chinese New Year was underway and not only were the campervans in short supply we learned that throughout most of New Zealand the hotels and motels were booked up. in the 3+ weeks we’ve been here, we’ve only see 2 “vacancy” signs.
We also took the little harbor ferry over to Diamond Harbor for lunch at the Dark Star. Cool name, and nice house beer!
