MAR 1-5, 2018 – MELBOURNE, AU

Melbourne is a beautiful city and we saw and did a lot. We walked around the first day – a beautiful sunny day. On the following days we explored – by train to Williamstown, a small seaside town where we took a float-plane flight, and took the ferry back, getting great views of the city skyline and the sea port. We rode the Melbourne Star, the Big Wheel, and saw, oddly enough, a Costco near by!!! On March 4 we walked through the Botanical Gardens and then took the tram to another seaside town, St Kilda. We tried to see the small penguins come into the breakwater after sunset, but only one showed up and allowed the ranger to shine a red light so we could see it.On our last day we wandered around again and then went to the National Gallery of Victoria, an amazing place, with an extensive array of exhibits. We were awed by the exhibit of chrome chairs – maybe a hundred???? not any one alike, and not one like a normal chair! There was also a very cool exhibit of “clothes pins” arranged into “art” on wire and an interactive exhibit where an entire house of 4 rooms, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and me in the dining room, where everyone plants a red sticky flower. We had a late lunch by the river, watching the rowing teams and then departed by the Skybus to the airport for our 1AM flight to Hanoi.
